German brand Adidas presented yesterday the official ball for the Champions League Final 2014, happening the next 24th of May (saturday) in Lisbon, at the iconic Estádio da Luz (light stadium), home of Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
The ball is produced using thermo-forming techniques that eliminate the need for panel stitching construction, this creates a smoother surface and a more perfect sphere shape. The design features blue stars that are reminiscent of the Champions League brand and in their interior there are details of Compass Rose that evokes the Portuguese discoveries epoque. The orange details are meant to reproduce the orange from the roof tiles so characteristic of Lisbon's environment.
This will be the second Champions League final happening in Portugal after the 1967's Celtic FC VS FC Internazionale Milano, that happened in the National Stadium and the only other international final happened in 2005's UEFA Cup final at Estádio José de Alvalade, between home team Sporting Lisbon and CSKA Moskova that ended badly for the Portuguese, who lost 3-1 to the Russians.
